CHRONOLOGY: After making the oath at the end of the first movie - this includes flashback scenes of his childhood from the second movie.
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Housed with roommates, preferably De Chima
BACKGROUND:Eddie is from the small town of Derry, Maine. Derry was terrorized by It, an alien monster that most often appeared as a clown called Pennywise. It would eat people, then hibernate for twenty-seven years, only to eat more people. It could take on different forms and create visions, all to inspire fear in It's victims, as fear made them 'tasty'. It's favorite target was children as children's imaginations made them easy to scare.
Eddie lost his father to cancer at a young age. Around the same time, he became ill with bronchitis. His mother was in the midst of grieving her husband and was afraid of losing her son too. She became obsessed with keeping him safe. Even after he recovered and was physically healthy, she told him he was still ill and delicate. She told him that he suffered from asthma, allergies and other lies to keep him controlled and to make him spend most of his time indoors. She made him take placebos and she had him use an inhaler filled with water (flavored with a medicinal taste). He believed that he needed them. She went as far as getting doctors and a pharmacist to back up her lies. He lived under the constant threat of being taken to the hospital for tests such as x-rays if he broke he mother's rules.
Eddie was bullied in school, and became good friends with other bullied children, Bill, Richie and Stan. They were very close, and while the teased each other, his friends never made him feel fragile or sick. His friendship with them allowed him see how much his mother held him back and he began to explore the world more with their help. During the summer of 1989, they made friends with other bullied children - Bill, Bev and Mike and referred to themselves as the loser's club.
One day, Eddie was chased by a leper that looked like 'a walking infection'. He ran until he saw a clown. The clown terrified him to the point that he felt frozen with fear for a moment, before he tried to escape through a fence and the clown disappeared. His friends had encounters with the clown as well, with It knowing how to play on their fears. The friends discussed their encounters and eventually went to a house they believed to at the center of the attacks.
While exploring the house, Eddie was separated from his friends and broke his arm. It appeared out of a refrigerator and attacked him. Eddie was rescued by his friends who took him to safety and called his mother. Eddie's mother blamed his friends for his injury, and forbid him to see them again. During this time, It made him believe that his mother was in danger from a leper. Without the support of his friends, Eddie was unable to fight the leper and ran away.
Later, a teenage pharmacy employee, Greta, told him that his medications were all placebos. Greta mocked him for the placebos as well as for not having friends to sign his cast. She spit out her gum onto his cast and wrote 'loser' on it. Eddie stood there and took the insults, later writing a 'v' over the 's' to make it read 'lover'.
Eddie received a phone call from his friends, telling him that Bev had been kidnapped by the clown, and they needed his help. He confronted his mother, having realized that the only people who protected him were his friends, and went to help them. Eddie took off his fanny pack with his medications and battled It with his friends. After they defeated It, Eddie took an other with his friends that they would fight It again, if It returned.
Eddie later retrieved his fanny pack, returned to living by his mother's rules and his memory of It faded. He is taken from this point in his cannon.
As an adult, Eddie lost his memories of his childhood and became a risk analyst for an insurance firm. He married a woman named Myra, who controlled him in a manner similar to his mother. After a phone call from Mike, he returned to Derry, remembered his friends and It. He was very afraid of being killed, or worse - his friends being killed due to his failure. With the encouragement of his friends, he realized he could be brave and participated in the final battle with It. He was killed. His last words were a joke to Richie about Richie's mother - his way of letting his friend know that he was okay with dying and not scared, as he had helped save his friends.
PERSONALITY:Eddie is naturally very talkative. He knows 'facts' taught to him by his mother and that he's learned from other sources. He remembers every rule that his mother has given him and every medical condition he's been told that he has. He may recite these 'facts' and 'conditions' to anyone who will listen. Unfortunately, these 'facts' are often rare, worst-case scenarios and others may be outright lies his mother told him to scare him. He can also be very blunt, warning others about potential 'dangers' around them. He can be gullible as well, falling for any story about a potential threat to his health or well-being. He is easily manipulated, especially by his mother (and as an adult - by his wife). There are times when he is quiet, usually due to fear, for example, being quiet around bullies. Even when he is quiet, he is expressive - ie, biting his lip when he s thinking, or giving an angry glare to a bully.
Eddie is very fearful. He constantly worries about his health. He internalized his mother's lies to the point that he has made himself sick with anxiety. He suffers panic attacks which present similar to asthma attacks and he is dependent on his inhaler to calm down. He has a serious fear of bacteria, viruses and disease. He continues to take his medication and is starting to forget that they are placebos. He has fears beyond medical issues as well, and avoids risks. His fear can lead him to freeze up or to run away.
Eddie's fear also gives him low self-esteem. He believes he is weak and that he will let others down. He takes abuse from his mother and bullies, (and later in life his wife) - on some level, he thinks he deserves it, especially from his mother and wife. Since he sees himself as weak, he thinks he needs their 'protection' and that the only way he can be loved is to be treated as though he's sick. He is able to get past that belief when he is around his friends, as they care about him unconditionally.
Eddie truly cares about others. He looks out for his friends in the ways he knows how, advising them to shut up around bullies and warning them about potential dangers. He is able to overcome his own fears to help them, such as cleaning a bloody bathroom, despite his fear of blood and germs. He will join his friends and go to places that he knows will upset his mother. Later, he joined them in fighting It and never had a panic attack during the battle, even screaming 'I'm gonna kill you' at It. He will also help strangers, for example, when he first met Ben - Ben was injured and Eddie stole medical supplies from a pharmacy and treated his wounds, again not giving into his fear of blood and germs. (Note, as an adult, Eddie became indifferent to others, but once reunited with his friends, he began to care again).
POWER:Placebo Effect: Eddie can relieve the symptoms of an injured or ill person through touch, but not actually cure/heal anyone. Ie, if they have a broken leg, he can take away the pain but the bone would still be broken. This will be a challenge for Eddie as touching a potentially contagious person or someone who is bleeding will make him anxious. Also, if he uses this power for an extended period of time, he will began to take on the symptoms himself, ex, feeling the pain of a broken bone.
Precognitive dreams: Eddie has dreams that predict the future. This is loosely based on book cannon where he had dreams that vaguely predicted the future, only in game they'll be clearer dreams. The dreams are limited as to not spoil events in game, ie, he might have a dream of someone dying, but not the events leading up to their death. He can have dreams of his own future as well as the future of other characters. This will be done with other players' permission. Permission post here -
https://germhating-hypochondriac.dreamwidth.org/1237.html Navigation and directional powers: Eddie will instinctively know where places, people and objects are located. He knows the distance from where he is at any given moment to any other location, the routes that can be taken and the time it will take to get there. He has the ability to find lost people and things. He will never be lost.
〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:Hello? Can you hear me? We're all kidnapping victims here; you guys know that right?
This nanite stuff sucks. There are tiny germ sized robots crawling around inside us! Something's gotta be powering them. They could be hanging out in our stomachs eating our food. Or they could be eating us and making tiny little holes inside our bodies. They could all build up in one place and block off the blood flowing through our arteries and our veins. Or build up in our organs, our lungs and our brains! And, our bodies are mostly water. They could be rusting inside us.
I think I'm allergic to them! Everything's itchy. I'm gonna break out into hives!
[A sound of wheezing can be heard] I could be allergic to the tattoo too. I'm just a kid. I shouldn't have one. I think it's starting to swell up. I could have an infection. Or a blood disease. I don't trust these government people to be clean.
[The wheezing continues and his voice becomes strained with each word. By the end of his talking, he can be heard using his inhaler.]How are we supposed to deal with this shit?
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:Eddie stared up at the house in front of him with wide eyes. It was his new home, according to the man that had dropped him off and the information he'd been given. He was cold, having been dressed for the summer back home and the weight of the cast on his broken arm was starting to annoy him. It didn't help that his other hand was heavily bandaged. The bandages were for a small cut, used in making a blood oath with his friends. It barely needed a band-aid, let alone gauze and bandages. They were a compromise; the only way his mother would let him stay at home instead of taking him to the hospital and bullying some doctor into unnecessary stitches. He was actually wishing he'd gone to the hospital now.
Eddie frowned and walked around the house slowly, looking it up and down. He examined the condition, almost as if he was a home inspector to check that it was up to his own personal standard. When he was done circling the house, he stood on the doorstep, fumbling with the key. If anyone saw him, he'd tell them that it was hard to open the door with the cast and bandages. He couldn't simply admit to being terrified of starting a new life on a new world that made no sense to him.
FINAL NOTES: None.
